Questions
Is anything held back from the self-hosted version?
No. The dashboard, the SDKs and every feature are the same open-source code. The cloud adds only what running it for many accounts needs: signing up and resetting a password by email, plans, and alerts by email.
What counts as an event?
One call of a tool, resource or prompt. Each session also sends one for the tool list it was shown. A server answering a thousand calls a day sends about 30,000 events a month.
What happens past the month's events?
New events are turned away and the SDK drops them and keeps running: your server is never slowed or stopped by mcpspan. Events are taken again when the month turns or the plan is raised, and the dashboard says when you are getting close.
What happens when the trial ends?
New events are no longer taken, and the dashboard still shows what was recorded. Fourteen days later the servers and their calls are deleted, unless a plan has been chosen by then. We email you before either happens.
Can I move between self-hosted and the cloud?
Your server keeps the same SDK and gets a new key and endpoint. Recorded calls don't move across, but every list in the dashboard downloads as CSV or NDJSON.
